4. post everesting
WAIT. WHAT DID YOU JUST GO AND DO?
Amazing effort! Congratulations are in order. Please take that deep sigh of relief now and follow these steps to maximise your recovery and complete the process to have your effort listed in the Everesting Hall of Fame.
SUBMIT ACTIVITY
Submit your run on our submissions page. You’ll need to connect your Strava profile (if you don’t have one, create one) and a link to your run.
The steps for a submission are simple:
STEP ONE: REGISTER YOUR DETAILS
Click on the SUBMIT button. You will need to register an account.

Once your account is created you will be taken to an Athlete profile page. Select the Submissions tab in the menu bar.

Once in the submission page click on Submit activity

STEP TWO: SELECT YOUR EVERESTING ACTIVITY TO SUBMIT
We automatically scan for any activity over 2000m so whether you have done a Basecamp, Everesting, 10K or Roam we will pick it up. Alternatively you can manually enter the Strava link of the Everesting activity into the manual selection box. Select the Everesting activity to submit. Please make sure the Strava file is publicly viewable otherwise we will not be able to approve the activity.
STEP THREE: CHECK, AMEND AND SUBMIT
Check the data that automatically populates your submission form. Manually update any fields as required. Please include any comments that may assist our verification process. Use the comments box to add a link to a second activity (eg due to a split recording).
All Everesting submissions must be verified by our panel prior to being accepted as valid.
Once your Everesting is approved you will receive an email and your activity will be listed in the Hall of Fame on Everesting.com
Please allow up to 7 days to allow your approval to take place (although it is usually much quicker than this). We are thorough with our process and make sure only successful Everestings end up in the Hall of Fame
INDUCTION INTO THE HALL OF FAME
Successful vEverestings are listed in the Everesting Hall of Fame on Everesting.com.
The Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame features some great filters allowing you to deep dive into the data of your own and other Everestings. You can filter by country, rider, gender, age, elevation to name a few. Use the filter buttons or search bar.
Your Everesting Listing in the Hall of Fame
Once uploaded your Everesting will feature in the Hall of Fame. The listing contains a snap shot of your Everesting at a glance. The listing will showcase your name, age, how many previous Everestings completed, the segment name, location, date and time and the main stats of interest such as total distance, elevation, average gradient and elapsed time. You will also be allocated any badges that you achieve with the listed activity. See the badges page for more information on achievements. You can deep dive further into the activity by clicking on the listing.
Activity Profile Page
When you click on the listing in the Hall of Fame you will be taken to a activity profile page.
Athlete Profile Page
When you click through from the Hall of Fame you will also notice a rider profile summary that also showcases all the Everesting badges and achievements for each athlete. Hover over any of the badges to learn what each is for. Complete more Everestings to unlock more badges. See our achievements page for more information.
BECOME A KEEPER OF THE CLOUD
Everesting is your key to becoming a Keeper of the Cloud and unlocking the unobtainable kit, the cycling kit reserved only for the most elite hill climbers in the world. An Everesting jersey is the most coveted of hill climbing kits. Once earned an Everesting jersey is for life.
This kit will have you recognised as a crew member and apart of an amazing world wide community. A community that shows support and encouragement not just for during your Everesting but continuing support and friendship ongoing.
Once your Everesting has been verified you can purchase your Everesting kit in our online store.
RECOVERY
After an epic challenge such as Everesting your body can feel really depleted. Post ride it is important to refuel and rehydrate. The following day focus on replenishing your nutritional and hydration stores. You will be hungry so don’t hold back, but try not to go too crazy with the celebration drinks!
Some simple recovery tips:
- Ensure you replace fluid and salts lost with specialised hydration or even soaking in an Epsom salt bath rich in magnesium.
- Some people benefit from hot/cold baths after a ride to aid muscle recovery and prevent DOMS.
- A gentle recovery ride in the following few days focusing on the legs spinning will help the muscles to recover more effectively.
- A massage is a good idea, but best to try and leave it for a few days after your Everesting effort.
- Expect to experience a big high for a few days accompanied by a great big low a few days later. This is normal.
- Sleep, sleep, sleep
NEXT STEPS
You have completed your vEveresting so what next? In the days and weeks after completing an Everesting you will be quickly inspired to take on further challenges. The beauty of Everesting is there is no end to the type of Everesting be it on a virtual platform, in real life, on wheels, or on foot. The more you complete the more badges you unlock on your rider profile. Tick off all four categories to claim the SSSS – Everesting on Soil, Significant, Suburban and Short. Learn more about the achievements here.
Want to push your physical boundaries more? Aim for a double or Triple Everesting or push yourself to hit 10K vertical.
THE ANSWER TO ALL YOUR QUESTIONS
Do I have to complete the last lap?
A: No, once you hit 2,212m / 4,424m / 8,848m / 10,000m (whatever your goal is) you can abandon that lap. Of course we always recommend a couple of extra metres!
Q: Do I have to stay on the bike for the descents?
A: No, there is no advantage to doing that. If you are on the Alpe, you’ll be looking at about 10mins to have a stretch, take a natural break, change your knicks (do it), or prepare an outlandish snack
Q: I’m worried about overshooting my turnaround point when on Zwift
A: No need to worry, your avatar will roll to a stop on both the Epic KOM Reverse, and Alpe du Zwift (although note that there is a little bit of climbing you’ll have to pedal for on the Epic KOM Reverse descent).
Q: What are the rules for a half or quarter vEveresting?
A: These follow the same rules as a ‘full’ vEveresting but are obviously only half or quarter the elevation!
Q: I don’t have a direct drive trainer, can I climb the Alpe du Zwift or RGT climbs with gradients above 7% for this challenge?
A: Unfortunately wheel slippage on a wheel-based smart trainer means that gradients over around 7-8% means that you’re not getting the full ‘realism’ of the 10%+ grades of the Alpe. Good news, you can still complete a vEveresting on the Epic KOM Reverse (it is a great hill for vEveresting!).
Q: Can I use powerups during my Everesting?
A: Yes you can
Q: What is the best frame + wheelset combo for climbing?
A: Knock yourself out: https://zwiftinsider.com/fastest-climb. On RGT all bikes weight the same.
Q: Do I need to change my name for this?
A: If you pop ‘vEveresting’ in your name it will signal to all other riders that they need to sling you some Ride Ons!
Q: What is the most wholesome on-bike nutrition?
A: Home-delivered pizza
Q: Zwift Question: I don’t have level 6. Is there some kind of hack that will spawn me inside the Alpe du Zwift gate?
A: From the Zwift Companion App you can search for riders with ‘vEveresting’ in their name. Find someone riding Alpe du Zwift, spawn to them, and then u-turn and roll to the base of the climb
Q: What setting should trainer difficulty be at?
A: This must be set at 100%. You can change this in the settings panel: https://zwiftinsider.com/using-the-trainer-difficulty… On RGT this is called “Feedback Intensity” and is controlled in the “Slope” tab when riding, in FulGaz it is ‘Slope Scaling’..
Basically just changes how hard the gradient feels. Worth checking out before the day!
Q: What do I do if my virtual platform crashes?
A: Please, please, please (please!) take screenshots or photos along the way. We recommend at least once a lap. If the platform crashes, reboot it and continue riding, using the elevation gained to that point. We’ll need to see proof of where you were up to prior to the crash, so note point above about taking photos/screenshots!
What do I do once I’ve finished?
A: In no particular order: Celebrate with a frosty beverage, shower, and submit the ride to us via www.everesting.com/submit
Q: Do you have any general recommendations on riding indoors for this long?
A: Indeed:
– A fan is really important to keeping your core temp down, and reducing how soggy you’ll get
– Keep your undercarriage dry by changing knicks and towelling off at set intervals
– Chamois cream helps prevent chafing
– Use your best knicks!
– Salt tabs, or other sodium replacers are a good strategy. You’ll be sweating a lot
– It’s difficult to adopt different positions, but try to climb out of the saddle for periods of time
– Use the descent time to have a stretch. Focus on glutes, calves, hamstrings, and quads
Q: Can I use ERG mode for the attempt
A: You can’t use ERG for a vEveresting
Q: How do I perform a u-turn?
A: You can either use the down arrow on your laptop, use the u-turn function on the companion app, or select it by clicking on the screen. Note that you will need to be moving (even slowly) for the u-turn to work.
Q: What time do you take for my vEveresting in the hall of fame?
A: We take your total elapsed time, not ride time
Q: What time do I need to start?
A: We recommend getting in a good nights sleep beforehand, and then waking up a bit early to start. You’ll do the majority of climbing during the day, and won’t have to dip too much into the night. This strategy also helps maintain your regular rhythms for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Q: Where can I find general advice on getting set up for a vEveresting?
A: We’ve prepared a comprehensive guide here.
Q: What can I do to conserve battery for my laptop?
A: Have it plugged in the entire time, reduce the screen brightness, close down all other programs/apps, reduce the graphics level in either Zwift, FulGaz or Rouvy virtual platform settings.
