“Everesting is badass… the distance is the easy part, the elevation is the killer”

On April 29, 2023, Taylor Hodoose took on 20 laps of Encinal Canyon, a steep climb in Southern California’s Santa Monica Mountains, just off the Pacific Coast Highway.

Over 18 hours and 45 minutes, he covered 323.57 km and climbed 8,890 meters of elevation—starting at 3:30 AM in thick fog, pacing himself at 200 watts to survive the long haul.

“At the halfway point, I’d already climbed 15,000 feet, and the real challenge was knowing I had to do it all over again.”

With two laps to go, his friends arrived to light the road ahead. “I didn’t realize how much I needed it until they were there.”

Big kudos to Taylor—absolute grit to finish strong!
