“I was suicidal, but cycling gave me structure, joy, and a way forward”
From Rock Bottom to New Heights
Meet Mark Bruce (@markbruce90), a former guitarist who transformed his life through cycling. Once battling alcohol addiction and mental health struggles, Mark used cycling as his lifeline, shedding 40kg and finding a renewed purpose.
This incredible journey led him to take on the Everesting challenge—climbing the height of Everest 12 (!) times during 2024! 🌄💪
“I was suicidal, but cycling gave me structure, joy, and a way forward,” he shares.
Mark’s journey began with his 1st Everesting on January 2024 and ended with his 12th in December. Truly, a monumental achievement for the whole of 2024. 🚴♂️🔥
Here’s what Mark’s year of pushing limits looked like:
✨ 2,584km cycled
⏳ 172 hours on the bike
⛰️ 109,155 metres gained in elevation
“I just think it’s proof you can do hard things if you can focus, push beyond where you think the line is, and believe in yourself. It seems so daunting, but if you really push, you can do anything.”
Mark’s journey isn’t just about physical endurance; it’s about resilience, focus, and a powerful cause. Stay tuned for more on his Final Lap, the mission behind his rides, and his support for @tinychanges’ incredible work. 💙
What’s your next big challenge? Let Mark inspire you to aim higher. 🌟
