“You may fail, you may want to give up but trust me, the climb is always worth it”
Aidan King’s Everesting journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of community. Just weeks after completing LeJog – that’s cycling the full length of Great Britain from Land’s End to John o’ Groats – he tackled his first Everesting on Porlock Hill, battling GPS dropouts, punctures, and sheer exhaustion to raise £950 for The Haemophilia Society – a cause close to his heart.
Two years later, 25kg lighter and with renewed focus, Aidan joined 100 riders in the Peak District, aiming for a group world record. Though the record wasn’t achieved, he finished 3rd in 13 hours, 13 hours faster than his first attempt, learning more about himself and forming lifelong connections.
Now a coach, Aidan supported others through their virtual Everesting, climbing 10,000m himself to encourage their success.
Aidan puts it best. “I was never doing another one after the first but different motivations led me to them, I now have 3 on the Hall of Fame, and I met some of the best cyclists and people I know through this challenge.
You may fail, you may want to give up but trust me, the climb is always worth it – and in this case the last rep will 100% be worth it. Believe and embrace progress.”
